When does après ski start in Borovets?
Après ski starts when the skiing winds down in the afternoon. The busiest hours are roughly from 16:00 until early evening, when people come straight off the slopes — skis, boots and helmets included.
At BJ's Bar the doors are open every day from 08:00 to 04:00, so you can start with a coffee before your first run, come back for après ski and stay for the night.
What to drink: the après ski classics
Glühwein (mulled wine) is the number one warm-up drink on the mountain. Bombardino — egg liqueur and brandy topped with whipped cream — is the sweet, warming favourite. Irish coffee, jagertee and hot toddy are the other classics.
Prefer something cold? Bulgarian Zagorka beer, draft beer and cocktails like the mojito, Aperol spritz and espresso martini are always on. At BJ's, Happy Hour runs 24/7.
Where is the après ski party?
The heart of the resort is around the gondola station in the centre of Borovets. BJ's Bar sits right there — opposite the gondola lift, next to Hotel Samokov — so it's the first stop for many skiers coming down.
Expect a terrace, DJs every night and a themed party every day of the week: 60's, 70's and 80's nights, the Friday Après Ski Party on the terrace from 16:00 and Saturday's The Big One until 4 AM.
Tips for the best après ski
Book a table if you are a group — the après hours fill up quickly. Eat something: burgers, pizza, wings or a cheese fondue go a long way after a day on the slopes. And remember the bus or taxi back to your hotel if you are staying outside the centre.
